India Johnson Hui is an audacious leader with visions of transforming the educational education system to the benefit of all people. After several years of teaching, in 2014 India joined IUPUI's Urban Principalship Program, where she also earned a Master of Science in Educational Leadership, and in 2016 she participated in the Harvard Graduate School of Education School Turnaround Leaders institute. Serving students and families outside of the classroom brings joy to India; she has been a coach, organizer of school and community events, trusted mentor, and community advocate. In 2017 she launched Thrival Academy: Indy as a pilot program in conjunction with Indianapolis Public Schools, The Mind Trust, and Thrival World Academies, and in 2018, Thrival Academy: Indy was founded as the first school of its kind. As the founding school leader, India has functioned as everything from executive director to academic coach for the one-year study abroad school. Many know Thrival as "the Thailand school," but it is a school with rigorous academics and an undeniable culture of affirmation and excellence. After two successful years, she is now leading the school's transition to a more sustainable model which more closely reflects the community it serves. India’s work has centered elevating the voices and experiences of those who have been historically underserved by the education sector. India is a published author and contributor for local and national publications, discussing topics ranging from systemic inequality to education reform. India Hui is a devoted educator who has lived the majority of her life in Indianapolis, Indiana.
